Nepal National team skipper, Sagar Thapa - who is currently contract free - said that people shouldn't make a buzz of his moving from Yeti Himalayan Sherpa Club to other Clubs.

Speaking with the press in Dharan after leading Hongkong Nepalese Football team to the win over Yeti Himalayan Sherpa Club, which is his former employer, Thapa said, "I am a professional player. I play football and players move from one club to another. I think it is normal if i move to another Club from YHSC".

"Yes my contract with Yeti Himalayan Sherpa Club finished last month", Thapa said.

Don't you feel odd winning the match and scoring against your former employer? One journo asked in the meet.

Thapa replied: I am again telling you, I am a professional player!

Dear Graham Roberts; We Will Miss You!

The first day when he took the helm, he was in Chaauni Barrack with pool of players, training on the dusty field. With football boot on, white man was shouting at the players, come on.. pile up.. pile up..!

That was the month of February 2011. Graham Roberts was here in Nepal to coach Nepal National Football team for three months. AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers was coming nearer and it was Roberts' duty to make sure Gorkhalis would do better in the qualifiers.

Before the qualifiers, Nepal invited Bhutan in Pokhara where Coach Roberts tasted his first victory with the team in two match series.

AFC Challenge Cup Qualifiers was successful. The target was to qualify for the final round and the Gorkhalis did it!  Roberts penetrated into the hearts' of Nepalese football lovers after Nepal played an outstanding game against World Cupper North Korea which Gorkhalis lost 1-0.

Then came, FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Nepalese people danced in a tune, took out victory Parade and chanted "Roberts..Roberts" when Nepal hammered lowly Timor Leste 5-1 in an aggregate win in two matches. Nepal progressed to the second round of FIFA World Cup qualifiers for the first time.

FIFA World Cup qualifiers second round against Jordan was another event to remember. Nepal lost heavily against Jordan (0-9) in the first round in Amman but Gorkhalis showed their power in the second round at home. The score 1-1 rocked the nation and Graham Paul Roberts became the hot cake in the market!

Roberts also looked after Nepal U-16 team in SAFF Championship U-16 which was held in Kathmandu. The team clinched bronze medal.

The most anticipated tournament was next - SAFF Championship 2011. For this, Graham Roberts personally asked ANFA to arrange a month long foreign tour for the team ahead of the SAFF Championship. Nepal National team travelled ASEAN Countries and played four friendly matches in 22 days. The trip was forgettable but Roberts built a strong  team for the SAFF Championship.

The team performed well in India but lady luck was against Gorkhalis and was beaten by surprising Afghanistan in the semifinals.

Nepal entered Semifinals after 12 Years..... Nepal defeated Bangladesh after 18 years............all records were registered in the tournament.

AFC Challenge Cup Football tournament became the last tournament for Roberts in charge as the head coach.

Unfortunately, the results didn't greet Roberts well!

Matches Under Roberts (International Matches only Not with U-23 & U-19)

14 Matches: Six Wins, 4 Draws and Four Defeats

Achievements:

Semifinals entry in SAFF Championship 2011, Second Round Entry In FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, Bronze Medal for Nepal in SAFF U-16 Championship,

Relationship with media:

Roberts' relationship with media wasn't that pleasing but Roberts knew how to handle the press and he did throughout the year.

Roberts has decided to leave country on Thursday.

Roberts is a brave man. He is the winner. He doesn't want to loose the match. In fact, he is the match winner.

The man Roberts who lost three teeth in English FA Cup final refused to leave the field but he is leaving Nepal  though thousands of Nepalese footy fans want him to stay here in Nepal!

You must thinking how Roberts can leave Nepal when Thousands of Nepalese football lovers are insisting him to stay in Nepal. Why Do You Think The Brave Man Is Leaving Nepal?

AFC Challenge Cup 2012 : Interview with Nepali Captain , Sagar Thapa !!

Q.How is the Preparation going on?

“This is the biggest game we have ever hosted in Nepal, so the level of training meets the level of Game. We have been working on previous known defects.”

Q.Which part is stronger and which one is considered weaker in Nepali line up?

“Personally, I think every guys are great and they have been working harder in training. Considering previous performance, we have stronger Goal keeper and defense while our midfield has been fine thoroughly. Although our strikers have lot of pressure on them, they need to handle the pressure on game.”

Q.Which is the team you have expected a hard clash with on the group stage?

“No Doubt, Turkmenistan are way ahead in FIFA ranking. It can be a tough competition with them. Also 8 years ago we ended goal less draw with Palestine. In this 8 years gap, they have improved and can give us hard fight.

Q.As a captain how much pressure do you feel and how do you handle it?

“Definitely, there is an additional pressure on captain. We work as a team, motivate each other which helps on reducing pressure. In some case we draw an example of some games which helps to get back the energy level of players.”

Q.How has the supporters been in Nepal?

“It is really great to experience changes on our supporters. We used to get lots of negative feedback from Nepali supporters during our loss some years back. But now football literacy has increased. Supporters praise our game in spite of defeat if we had played well. This is really great to see changes on our supporters.”

Q.How has the coach has been to players?

“It is really great to have Graham Roberts as a coach. He has been a friend to players outside the field and a leader on the ground. During off periods, he offers ice-creams and gets involved in many entertaining activities. He has been 24 hours with players which makes no communication gap. ”

Q.How has the national league and knock out tournaments helped to boost the National Team?

“Certainly daily games and practices helps to improve the performance. It helps a lot on maintaining fitness of players. Few years back there was 3 years pause in league game due to internal affairs. Those were the time to get some revolution within the team but the gap acted as wall. This is why league games helps to improve the team and players and pausing them may hamper.”

Q.Please tell us something about the winning Free kick against Bangladesh:

” It was just about timing. On that game we got 3 chances and I delivered all three free kicks as a cross. In spite of good delivery, our players were unable to gather the ball. So at the last moment, I decided to target the net and suggested the players to wait for return ball. Fortunately, the ball got into the net.”

Q.Do you wish Aaron(Son) to be a footballer?

“I do not want to interfere in his decisions. Lets see his interests and the environment. Its all on his hands and we(I and his mom) has given him full authority to make his decisions.”

Message for Nepali Football Fans.

“This is our home tournament. We have expected lots of support from our Followers. With your love we can go way ahead. ”
